That Time I Took Him To A Vegan Restaurant

This past Sunday, my partner and I went to watch Marvel’s End Game. The movie was 3 hours long (or something like that). By the time we were done, we went to Planta, a very popular vegan restaurant in Toronto. We actually picked a theatre that was right by the restaurant, so we could satisfy his eager to watch the movie and try this new restaurant.

We ordered cauliflower tots, the planta burger and a pizza (called The Frenchie).

I have been to Planta before and I recommended the cauliflower tots to him. It was more brown in colour this time but it still tasted like the first time I had it.

The planta burger was good. I really liked it and would order it again. And so did my partner. He is a vegetarian and ever since I have known him, he has always wanted to eat here. He put his stamp of approval too. And he has ate many vegetarian burgers in his lifetime. But I couldn’t care less about the fries.

I always tend to go for something else on the menu and I always regret my choice. We ordered The Frenchie (mushrooms, squash, cashew mozzarella, arugula). I would not order this again, as it really lacked flavour and the pizza was too soft (I was expecting a crusty pizza).

We couldn’t finish everything..I think it’s cause we ate too fast. But there was plenty to eat for just the two of us.

Winterlicious 2017 – Cibo Wine Bar

Can I please get a hallelujah because I just discovered the best Winterlicious restaurant. Why, you might ask? The answer is simple. BUFFET! That’s right… what I thought would be a three course Sunday lunch turned into an all-you-can-eat (aka ACYE) Italian lunch. SCORE!
I was waiting with a friend for our table and saw that people were walking up and down stairs with plates full of everything, ranging from pastries to pasta to little assortments of desserts. And soon I was one of them, filling my plate with everything I could fit in my stomache.

Because the restaurant had three floors, food was spread throughout the building. The upper floor (literally a staircase with four steps from the main floor) had the main courses, including three different pastas cooked when you order it from the kitchen, three different freshly tossed salads, charcuterie plate, seafood cooked in a tomato sauce, sandwiches and all the Italian appetizers.

The basement wasn’t bad at all. There were plain and chocolate croissants, mini danishes, fresh Belgian waffles, sausage, bacon fruits and desserts.

I would totally recommend trying Cibo Wine Bar next time Winterlicious rolls around (but be sure that they are having a buffet during these two weeks). The restaurant was full and packed! They even managed to seat people at the bar (which I found weird). When I finished lunch around 2pm, there were even more people waiting for tables compared to when I first walked in. Make sure you get a good seat, not at the bar or at a stool like table.

Hot Stacks Famous Pancakes

We hardly ever venture out of the Scarborough-Toronto area. 1. Scarborough is a central spot to find most Chinese foods (that my family will eat). 2. What’s the point? (though I see all the other activities we could be doing.)

This was definitely a special day (or weekend rather) because my parents went on a cruise! And I took the day off from studying just to come here (sort of). We started off, well early enough, leaving the house around 9 A.M.ish. It took us about an hour’s car ride to get to Tanger Outlets in Cookstown. After all the shopping, we finally made it to Hot Stacks Famous Pancakes, located five minutes West of the mall (literally five minutes!).

It’s really family friendly. The restaurant looks so cute! It’s really big and spacious inside. I wish I had taken a panorama from the entrance.

A restaurant that serves (mainly) breakfast items all day (till closing)…I LOVE IT! The menu has plenty to choose from….pancakes, waffles to omelettes.

The premium orange juice wasn’t anything fancy. It just comes with pulp.

We were starving and almost ate everything! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted because I wanted a bit of everything!

D ordered Liver, Bacon and Onions (under the Lunch Clasics) (typical him). It came with a side of chicken rice soup. And the soup was delicious (we never had that before).

A also had a hard time deciding what she wanted. I believe she settled with the Junior Lumberjack (under Breakfast Classics) ; that came with everything: eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and hash brown.

I ordered the Cinnamon Apple Glazed Waffle. Truly disappointed. The waffle (YES, one waffle) wasn’t crispy and where do I even begin with the glaze? It is honestly apple sauce with powdered cinnamon. I was expecting more, like a cinnamon apple waffle batter? And it wasn’t hot either. Maybe warm? It’s been too long! (Sigh!)

I’m on the edge if you ask me whether or not I would eat here again. I do like the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. I have yet to encounter something similar to this in my area. But the journey here is a bit too long.
