Skippa – Seasonal Japanese Cuisine

For my 26th birthday, I knew where I wanted to have my birthday dinner. It was either Skippa (I read an article on the Toronto Star last year about the restaurant) or Ruby Watchco (recommended by my cousin). I was waiting for Ruby’s menu to switch, the restaurant’s menu switches every day. But by the time the new menu was out, I decided not to take a risk..I didn’t fancy the day’s menu so I made reservations at Skippa.

And to my despair, the restaurant was fully booked on the day that we wanted to go. So the manager and I had a brief conversation via email and confirmed reservations for Sunday. And I’m so glad I waited….It was really worth the wait. Even my brother and sister in-law said it was pretty good.

I usually don’t like raw oysters, but it was to die for!

The sashimi was too good! Just talking about it makes my mouth water.!

I never knew tomato salad could be so fresh and the pesto dressing really brings the whole salad together!

The mushroom salad was too salty and I didn’t find anything interesting about it.

I think I might cook carrots like these next time I gave guests over. Carrots were amazing.

Now I cannot recall the sushi that I was served. I’m pretty sure most of the sushi pictured in this post is on the menu (scroll down to find menu).

Last course was a sweet tofu egg even though I told the waitress that I cannot eat eggs.

The two desserts really impressed all five of us. The peach ice cream (below) wasn’t overly sweet. And the cantaloupe sorbet was so on point. Every bite was like biting into a ripe cantaloupe.

Skippa is a very small restaurant, I highly recommend sitting at the bar!
